My Europe / Mein Europa

'My Europe' is an interactive digital series of events that invites its guests to discover Europe.
How does it work? It's simple: We talk to young people from various countries about Europe and their personal topics of interest. The topics are as diverse as the speakers and can range from current political and social developments through culture and science to one's own commitment to greater tolerance or solidarity. In addition to the given topic, all participants can also vote live on other topics and ask questions on the evening itself.

On 26th September, Dr. Verónica Relaño Écija will take the audience on a virtual journey to Spain

Veronica was born far from the sea in central Spain but always felt a strong connection to the ocean. She studied Marine and Environmental Sciences at the University of Cadiz, where she also got involved in environmental education and social issues. After spending two years between France, Spain, Belgium and New Zealand, she earned a Master’s in Marine Environment and Resources.

Veronica then moved to Germany to work at the Technical University of Munich, studying the impact of hydropower plants on ecosystems. With a prestigious "La Caixa" scholarship, she pursued a PhD in fisheries at the University of British Columbia in Canada, focusing on marine conservation.

Currently, Veronica is a postdoc at the University of Santiago de Compostela, where she studies equity in global fisheries and works on a project to protect 30% of European seas by 2030, together with the European Commission. She also leads the Oceans Program at the NGO “Onewater” and runs a UN Ocean Decade project called “We Are Oceans.” In her free time, she enjoys yoga, cheese, and making documentaries.

On 26th September, Veronica will discuss marine conservation and our relationship with the Ocean. She will also present her global youth initiative "Letters to the Sea".

How does the online discussion work technically?

On the day of the event, you can join the event a few minutes before it starts. At the online event, you are free to decide whether you want to be seen and heard. You can also deactivate your video. You can ask questions via the Q&A tool or verbally by unmuting your microphone. Remember that the event is being recorded and uploaded on YouTube afterwards.
